About
Kurt Schuler is a Seattle based american singer-songwriter and guitarist who records and performs under the name Omen Moth. Although the landscape of his stories is often realistic the songs themselves seem to come from some far off place indicative of a history rooted in much time spent alone. Wildly imaginative characters you might believe could exist in some nameless part of backyard Alaska sort out tales of hardship and philosophical dilemma while fighting to remain sober--his imagery brings to mind lost things in a world that perhaps you might see only when alone.
Kurt started out writing and recording songs on a four track cassette recorder in Southern California where he lived in the spare bedroom of his grandparents house in a gated retirement community.
"I was the youngest person there, I was only like twenty-one. I didn't have any friends. I had just come through a pretty rough time in my life. I was supposed to be down there going to college which I was but didn't really care about the classes. I'm not sure why I went down there to begin with. I would go for these runs around the retirement community and get pulled over by the security team on their golf carts because you weren't supposed to be out in the community without being accompanied by a resident. My Grandpa was younger then and played golf but he was still like eighty years old. He wouldn't have been able to run. I really liked it down there though. I think i just went down there to be alone."
Kurt fell in love with songwriting during this time and often stayed up late into the night writing and recording which eventually lead him back to the Northwest to start a band.
After a couple year period of playing louder indie rock shows in the Seattle Area Kurt turned back to the bedroom and began work for several years on another collection of demos which eventually fell into the hands of Charlottesville producer Daniel Levi Goans.
